Remote! You drive on a dirt road to get here. Cool atmosphere but no climate controls. Good selection and quality of beer. If you're close by give it a try but it's far away from civilization.

Cool place in a very isolated and rural part of the beautiful Missouri Ozark Mountains. Very much worth our 2 hour detour to sample their delicious selection.

Bronze backs and craft cans, how is that not a line out the door?

I first discovered Piney River Summer 2011. They hadn't been open for long and were serving from their tap, filling growlers, and selling kegs only. By Fall 2011, they were the first microbrewery in Missouri to can their own beer (because you can only have canned beer on the river, and there are many rivers to drink on in the Ozarks). They produce some of the best microbrew in the Show Me state.

First Impressions
After driving down about a mile of dirt road, I arrived at Piney River Brewing Company's BARn (a restored barn that has been converted into their brewery). I was immediate greeted by the smiling owners (and about 15 other beer lovers!) who wasted no time giving me samples of each of their 5 main beers (Pale Ale, IPA, Wheat - brewed with regular ale yeast!, Amber Ale, and Porter) - each more tasty than the last. Though never a fan of wheat beers, I found their recipe to be quite delicious (a few months later, they would wow me again with their infamous Black Walnut Wheat - the only wheat beer I've ever gone back to for 2nds and 3rds; I would have brought a growler home had they not run out!). Even though I am an IPA fan at heart, I found myself drinking their porter in equal proportions.

Other Tidbits
They sometimes carry a guest tap or two (usually from other Missouri breweries).
Be sure to talk to owners Brian and Joleen for they love to talk their craft and anything else related!
They are still adding to their BARn which will eventually be the brewery downstairs and a full bar upstairs with an incredible view of rolling Missouri hills.

I can't wait to sit in the BARn again and watch the sun go down while one of their tasty brews goes down too.
