Globally very nice with a big roasted character. The mouthfeel is overly thin for the abv though. Were you going 4volt upthere with only sugar?
A bit boozy. It lacks a certain maltodextrin part to be balanced.

Didn't know there was a 9% and a 13% version. Fun. Never saw the 9% version, but this monster comes from the De Molen beer shop in Bodegraven.
From a bottle into a snifter
APPEARANCE: A clear black pour yields a small, loose, fizzy, light tan head with horrible retention. Head fizzles like coke down to a half wisp. Black body with no carbonation evident. Flat looking by the end. Decent color but lousy head.
SMELL: Alcohol, port, booze, dark fruits with molasses and dark chocolate on the nose. Burnt and charred grains as well. This is going to be boozy.
TASTE: Port, alcohol and some dark fruit sweetness up front. It's boozy, but not as bad as anticipated. Caramel and more alcohol at the swallow with a big and lingering finish with burnt and charred grains, dark fruit, bitter dark chocolate and some port flavored alcohol.
PALATE: Medium body and lower levels of carbonation. Slightly watery on the palate, but goes down slick and finishes sticky. No bite, but heat lingers after the swallow.
OVERALL: This was a bold attempt that didn't turn out horribly. It didn't turn out all that great either though. Too alcoholic and a lousy head. Oddly enough, I had no idea there was a 9% version, and in my review notes I suggested they tone down the ABV to about 9% and see if the experience improves. I am a genius. Forget this one.
