Full bodied and malty, Krampus Nacht binds chocolate, bready, and roasted malt flavors together with hints of raisins and stone fruit. German Saaz hops complete this bock-style beer, making it the perfect companion for scary ghost stories and tales of the glories of Christmases long, long ago.

Smells like caramel and I thought it was going to be sweet, it’s actually a little bitter and has a bit of a char flavor .. not sure how to feel about this one lol . It’s not bad ,just different.

Look: It pours dark brown with a tan head. Head retention is very good.

Smell: It has a deep caramel and bready aroma. There are low toasty notes as well.

Taste: It has toasty notes with caramel. There are some low roast with every low burnt elements.

Feel: It has a medium body with a bitter finish.

Overall, the aftertaste is a bit sharp with roast and burnt qualities.

This brew has a deep amber hue and the head clings to the glass upon an aggressive pour. It smells faintly of burnt sugar and oatmeal cookies but has a bit of a metallic funk which brings the score down a tad. On the palate, it's slightly sweet and has a nice toasted quality but unfortunately doesn't have a ton of depth or complexity going on. There's an immediate, somewhat sharp, hop presence to keep it from going overboard with sweetness. It does have an especially pleasant and smooth finish and mouthfeel, which coats the mouth with smoky, roasted and bready goodness, with a some warmth from the higher abv. I'd say it's above average but not quite amazing. I don't mean this as an insult, I've just had more adventurous bocks in the past that have excited me more. I do really dig the aesthetic though, and I look forward to trying more from the brewery. And who knows, I may pick this one up again.

Had growler of this during Holidays. The ABV was 7% instead of 5.1%. Malty smooth with roasted, decent bitterness to balance at the end. Medium bodied with no alcohol in taste. A very good bock beer! Reminds me of the old Market Street Winter Lager beer in the late 1980's. Best I've had from Black Abbey!
