Belgian-style Golden Strong ale aged in gin barrels for 12 months. Baking spices and juniper blend with soft stone fruits with a light vanilla oak finish. Medium bodied and deceptively easy drinking.

Unsure what to think on this one. I bought it since I wanted to try a gin barrel beer and I love belgian strong ale, but it's mostly left me confused.
Color is a murky golden orange, darker than I'd expect but still perfectly clear. Nose is all candied orange, esters, and some sweetness, with a hint of bite. Flavor is all over the place. There's some white grape and stone fruit as well as the typical Belgian bubblegum esters and a LOT of spice. It's a very spice and coriander forward ale, but not too bitter. The bite is balanced by a big candy citrus note and a fair amount of sweetness, and there's something that sort of seems herbal about it, but comes across more as anise than juniper. Tons of carbonation and a great slick mouthfeel.
Overall I feel let down and unimpressed, but it's not bad and I didn't pay too much for it. I feel like the gin barrel aging didn't hurt the beer overall but it really didn't do anything.
