A Belgian ale showcasing prominent fruitiness deriving from the addition of 120 lbs of honey and a rich, balancing malt driven sweetness.

16 ounce portion poured into a pint glass at the brewery.
L---Slightly hazy, golden color. Medium white head with average retention and good lacing.
S---Banana & clove are upfront as advertised. Esters are present. A bit of sweetness.
T---Follows the nose. Banana, clove, yeasty esters, honey.
F---Lighter than expected. Fairly light boozy notes for its ABV. Nice carbonation.
O---A real nice one. If I found this one in the bottle shop, I'd get it.

Hands down a good beer from my fav local brewery. I love the boozy taste of barrel-aged beers but I typically judge strong Belgians on how well a brewery can mask that booze taste.
Job well done!

I am so excited to be drinking CANned beers again! I am still winnowing down the bottle backlog, but style matchups have led me back to The CANQuest (tm) for the time being.
From the CAN: "Belgian Styled Golden Ale"; "Ale Brewed With Honey".
I Crack!ed the CAN open and CANmenced a gentle Glug. This produced two foamy fingers of eggshell-white head with modest retention. Color was a beautiful Yellow -Gold (SRM = 4 -5) with NE-quality clarity. Naturally, this necessitated a visit from the Gelt Gang of Croesus, Mammon & Midas, coming from a lavish dinner on Thanksgiving. The nose on this one was interesting - kind of musty from the yeast, but with a definite honey sweetness. Mouthfeel was medium, but I got an initial fusel heat on the tongue. Fading, I could really taste the honey, followed by a yeasty papery mustiness. Man, this was no playin' around! I was really starting to feel it, which doesn't happen all that often any more. The finish was deadly dry, gaspingly so. Between the heat and the way that the yeast seemed to have really done its job, there was not one bit of sweetness to be found.

Sour wheat is an acquired taste and not a beer you drink in large quantities. It is one though that you can savor and grow to really enjoy

Poured into chalice, color is opaque gold, head is white presenting 1/4 inch thick then disappears to nothing.
Smell is slightly boozy and estery when frothed, then it fades to a lingering malt and alcohol blend, notes of citrus and banana, but not strong.
Taste is very fruity and sweet, booze is less noticeable but the sweetness and yeast byproduct flavors are not blending well. Some light toasted malt and then lingering sweetness with light honey notes. Yeast esters are light banana and touch of clove.
Mouthfeel is a touch on the sweeter/cloying side for a pale ale/tripel style; finishes dryer on the outside of the tongue but sweeter on the top.
Overall, a sweeter tripel in flavor with off balance flavors and not much belgian yeast character.

Must have been a bad batch. This was utterly undrinkable.
