$4.29 @ Total Wine & More, Cherry Hill, NJ

Notes via stream of consciousness: The "professor" has poured a hazy yellow gold colored body beneath a finger's width of fluffy bright white foam. Ay yay yay - I stuck my nose in it expecting a whole lot of hops and they're just not there. I'm assuming that I'm getting some pine because it smells a little like a cleaning product. Fingers crossed... nope. I am really disappointed with this. I had to take a moment, put my head in my hands, and ask myself WTF are these guys doing? It tastes like a cleaning product. It's piney with some lemony citrus and that's about it. The bitterness overpowers the minor amount of sweetness that the malt puts forward, and it just comes off as dull. It finishes dry, bitter, and "dank" and resinous. There's a very small amount of fruitiness to it, and some herbal character, but really, this is a disaster. Some "hop burn", which is normally nice in a NEIPA, only makes the finish worse. I'm also feeling, although I can't pinpoint it, that something went wrong in the fermentation. How strong is this? It's labeled at 6.2% ALC./VOL. which really isn't that strong, but it seems like it's higher. I am probably going to have to drain-pour this. Before I do, however, let me say that the head retention was pretty good and although it dropped fairly readily upfront I still have a thin but solid surface covering, and there's some nice lacing left behind. In the mouth it's medium-light in body and crisp, which on its own is OK, but it should have a better, fuller and silky-smooth mouthfeel as a NEIPA. I'm just astonished that they would release this as-is.

on draft.

opaque bright yellow golden in color, white head. nice fruity and dank hop aroma. taste has way too much "hop burn" though. harsh aftertaste of bitterness that stings the throat. nice mouthfeel, softer feel.
