A: Poured a deep brown with good carbonation leaving behind a dirty white head. The head retention was decent leaving some bubbles and light lacing.
S: Espresso comes to mind so does a cup of day old, warm Folgers coffee which is not necessarily to bad because i dig the smell of big Folgers caffeinated coffee. However, I thought the nose was a little coffee forward.
T: Initial coffee hits the taste buds, mmmm but then it sordove lingers and lingers and lingers. The coffee starts rather nice but become stale as it persists. It buries the typical porter notes I am looking for; light cocoa but it does not disappoint on the roastiness. The finish has persistenent coffee, a bit astringent but not to bad. I have had a lot of coffee beers which are over the top astringent, bitter and just down right bad.
M: Medium bodied, coffee takes hold and hangs on to the palate for a quite a while. A smidge of bitterness and ample roast are present.
O: Not to bad, just a little heavy on the coffee for my liking. A change in beans might be in order.
