Drank Café Académico, 2016 edition.
A: The body is opaque black with no light hues giving in any other colour that the body could have. There is no head when pouring nor after.
S: The aroma is very intense of ginger and cinnamon, too heavy indeed. So heavy that the cinnamon actually creates the feeling of itchiness on your nose. It's not please to breath in this beer.
T: The flavour is too intense of ginger and cinnamon - again, the problem is the same - it's too much of both things. Yet, there's some sweetness coming from all components - cinnamon, ginger, roasted barley, that gives this beer a good base to begin with. Yet, in the end, it's too much.
M: For a Christmas beer, the body is medium low to low which I find surprising. However, the carbonation is high which gives it a more drinkable setup.
O: As usual in the last years, Sovina's beer have been loosing some quality and this beer is a good result of it. But, and take me seriously, it can be, by far, the best beer they have currently in their porftolio.

Review based on the BJCP2008 guidelines (style 21B - Christmas/Winter Specialty Spiced Beer). Bottle 33 cl - Batch 01-14. AROMA: spice aromas of cinnamon, clove and cardamom. low oxidated like aroma present. APPEARANCE: light Brown color and slight hazy. thin ivory head with very poor retention and poor lacing for the rated 8% abv. TASTE: flavours equal to the aromas with very faint supportive malt flavours. low bitterness with a dry finish. PALATE: thin body with very low carbonation. no alcohol warmth for the rated 8% abv. OVERALL: an unbalanced Christmas ale too much strong on the spices which masks the base beer. watery body for a specialty beer. some defect aromas are also present.
