Olhão 15/7 2016. 33 cl bottle from Continente Modelo Supermarket. And what a bottle? Small and chubby with print directly on the bottle. By the way there is a slightly higher ABV of 5,2 % than posted here.

Pours very dark brown with a big light beige head. Very foamy upon pouring. Stable Settles as a thin layer of foam. No lacing to speak of.

Aroma of coffee, humid cellar and sweet toffee.

Surprisingly lively carbonation and thick palate. Lightly tingling texture.

Flavor has a medium strong sweetness followed by a light bitterness. Aftertaste is medium long and bitter/sour.

Quite light stout. Fairly interesting and lively at first but loses its fizz and becomes a bit flat after a while.

According to notes, I've drank this beer in June 2nd, 2015 and March 3rd, 2020. Adding it here to review it later.

Beer poured with thick creamy head. Dissipated quickly at first but hung around to the end. Smell was pungent with a strange, yes, wet leathery smell. I tasted a hint of licorice flavor and not so appealing to my pallet. High carbonation. Overall, not a bad beer. I would drink it again, but then again when in Portugal one does not have a lot to pick from.

Review based on the BJCP 2008 guidelines. Aroma: very high leathery aroma with sulfury notes maybe due to oxidation or from problems in fermentation. no notes from the roasted malts are noticeable. Appearance: deep black with a nice creamy, persistent head with good lacing. Taste: roasted flavour with moderate-low bitterness with of-flavour. Palate: light body with medium-low carbonation. Overall: a problematic batch, mainly because of its pungent leatheary aroma.

Taken from notes. Poured into nonic glass.

Appearance: Pours an opaque black brew, with red-brownish highlights. Forms a thin white head. No retention to speak of, little lacing on top of it. Unperceived effervescence.

Aroma: Medium high in intensity. Nose of cocoa and coffee with grainy biscuit notes on the back. Some faint bread and chocolate on the back aswell. Very clean english yeast profile. No alcoholic aroma. No hop profile.

Taste: Medium high in intensity. Cocoa and coffee with grainy biscuit on the back. Strong black patent presence. No hop flavour. Alcohol not noticeable.

Palate: Medium full body. Slightly acrid. medium to medium high bitterness. Medium low carbonation.

Overall: Interesting exemplar within the constraints of the style. It's very drinkable with no apparent flaws and within style guidelines; Having said that though it's still rather unremarkable and lacks temerity. The one thing i think stands out the most is the clean yeast profile giving the brew somewhat of a fresher character.
