Our friends at Sump Coffee roasted two single-origin coffees, Colombian True Level and Costa Rican Las Lajas, to add deep, rich, sweet coffee notes to our Madagascar Imperial Milk Stout. Madagascar Echo Base has layers of vanilla and bourbon that blend perfectly with the complex flavors of bright fruit and subtle earthiness contributed by the small-batch coffees.

On draft at 44 Stone Public House. Poured an opaque, jet-black color with a small, off-white head of foam. It left thing rings of lace on the glass. It smelled of roasted coffee, chocolate, toffee, bourbon and oak. Sweet chocolate and toffee taste with a great roasted coffee taste.

Pours black with mocha foam. Aroma is rich chocolate, toffee, and coffee. Some green pepper sneaks into the back, and with it, a little bitterness. Vanilla bean rounds it out, but never pushes it into overly sweet. Roasty and toasty malts are the steady ship underneath. Flavor profile is roasty and toasty malts right out front, then stacks big coffee and chocolate on top of that. Vanilla bean comes in afterwards, although much more subtle than the nose. It's smooth - dynamic. Mouth feel is smooth in texture with a medium creaminess. It carries a medium thickness. Overall, coffee notes are great here and accentuate the beer well.
