It's no secret that our Honey Pie Double IPA is often referred to as "heaven in a glass". A solid malt foundation is complemented by a generous amount of locally harvested honey, and... HOPS! Our unique blend of hops delivers aromas of honeydew and grapefruit, and will have you pouring the second beer before you've finished the first.

On tap at Jake's Billiards into pint glass. Pours lightly hazy reddish orange/amber color with a small dense off white head, great retention and spotty soapy lacing on the glass. Aromas and flavors of big red grapefruit, tangerine, peach, pineapple, honeydew melon, apricot, berries, citrus rind, peppercorn, pine, toast, biscuit, herbal, floral, grass. Good sized pine rind bitter finish. Medium carb and medium plus body. Balanced creamy bready malts and sticky resinous hop mouthfeel. Lingering resin dryness and mild astringency. Feels like Chinook and Simcoe hops. Very dank and resinous with a nice malt backbone. Really good malty DIPA with honey.

Purchased as a 16oz can from The Fresh Market for $1.78. Poured into a tulip glass.

L - Hazy copper, with a one-finger khaki head that dissipates very quickly. Laces fairly well, though.
S - Strong honey note. Grass and grapefruit peel. A bit of pine tar, as well.
T - Well-balanced at the start, but becomes increasingly bitter, and with a super bitter finish. Starts off with a pleasant wheat and grapefruit note, then slowly evolves into an earthy pine. Notes of pine tar are heavy, but is edged out by a pleasing honey flavor. A vague melon rind note comes out towards the finish. Finish is heavily bitter, full of pine, and super enjoyable. As you reach the end of the glass, the ethanol comes through - but isn't overbearing.
F - Medium-full in body, and with slight carbonation. Oily. Smooth, but not exactly easy-to-drink. Tongue-numbing towards the finish.
O - Rich, enjoyable, but not exactly honey-centric as the label would imply. This one is pine-heavy and with plenty of bitter grapefruit notes, but has noticeable honey notes here and there. It was a bad idea to enjoy this one mid-day - it's pretty strong! I would've liked it if they had more honey in it (not as a sweetener, but as a flavoring agent), but it's alright. Strong, hoppy, and bitter as hell! I'm not the type to enjoy such things all the time, but I won't ever turn one of these down. I'd recommend this to anyone that enjoys hop-heavy, strong brews with the occasional honey note. Like if Honey Brown was mixed with two shots of vodka, and made 200% more bitter.

Solid DIPA, unique taste with the honey, but in the end is a traditional double IPA...hoppy, piney goodness!

Poured from a tallboy can into a Dogfish Head tulip

L: Golden amber pour with 2 fingers of fluffy white head. Nice lacing.

S: Sweet and hoppy... pine and citrus.

T/F: Sweet up front... toasted malts and honey giving way to a modestly bitter citrus and pine hop profile. Grapefruit and floral character... pine and orange rind. Medium to light bodied... sticky on the tongue. Well carbonated.

O: A solid DIPA with honey... kind of a poor man's 'Hopslam' but a similar flavor profile. Worth checking out.

Honey Pie DIPA from Birdsong Brewing has lots of honey in the nose and on the palate, but that sweetness also inhibits whatever hops are supposed to be rocking the house, especially in a DIPA. Still, an easy drinking beer, even at 8.9%, and it could be a nice transitional for those folks who don't think they like IPAs. Smooth mouthfeel, albeit a bit sticky, but not in a negative way. I'd drink it again, but only if you were buying.

Came a clear amber shade with a thick sticky off white head atop that settles ever so slowly into a frothy mass, good color and head retention here.Aromas are of sweet caramel dough and candied fruits, light sharpness as well but the sweetness wins the day.A creamy feel for a DIPA,not alot of carbonation as it glided down easy.Sweet with the honey tinge on the palate with a decent shot of tropical fruits into the finish, yeah it's sweet but not cloying.A DIPA that says it's sweet and is sweet with the honey infusion, more brewers should say they brew a sweet DIPA.....

L: honey colored, white lacing head
S: honey, malt and slight pine
T: honey at first, but it ends bitter, some fruitiness
F: bitter finish
O: the honey softens this beer, but it's too bitter to rate higher
