Harper's Oatmeal Stout is basically a sedated version of your typical oatmeal stout. The style is almost always good, so follow the rules and you've got a good beer. However, it seems Harper's decided to scale back all of the ingredients.
It was an opaque brown color with a tiny tan head. Aroma's were mild but pleasant. Same with the taste. Surprisingly subdued, but the flavors were all good. Roasted oats, bitter chocolate, and coffee. A bit of caramel and toffee sweetness with a pretty dry finish.
I really think this could be a good beer if they pushed the flavor envelope. However, I also realize they're catering to a crowd of college students, most of which are more interested in quantity, not quality.
