Delicious. The lactose adds a nice creamy texture and flavor. Chocolate and coffee, not too sweet or bitter. Nice mouthfeel, and not too thin. On tap is too cold to enjoy it fully.
One of the best I have tasted from harper's, albiet their selection lacks. Too bad this is only a seasonal offering as I refilled my growler with it at least 4 or 5 times during its span in 2006.

Very, very dark borwn, almost black. As with all of Harper's beer it had no real head to speak of, only some funky lace. It smelled really sweet with ripe plums and dark malt in the nose. It tasted rich and sweet with a slight toastiness and a tiny bit of bitterenss from burnt grains and hops. Simple but very good beer. As with Harper's other beers, if they had hardcore beer drinkers in mind this beer would be great. The brewer is quite talented.
