Golden amber in appearance, with a thin white head (as served). This is actually lighter in color than the Grove Street pale ale. Powerful hop aromas, piney, citrus, spicey and floral, balanced with sweet crystal malt. The flavor is both bitter and malty, with hop flavors and caramel fighting for dominance. This is a great example of an American IPA, hoppy and balanced, I could drink this all day.

I remember enjoying this beer as a student after exams, but either they have done something to this beer or I am going senile. It's now called "Blockhead IPA". It pours a murky off amber with no head. Huge cascade hop nose, to the point of creating a hop sweetness. Very, very low carbonation, nearly flat. Long bitter piney finish..too long, and way too rich. Not at all balanced. Tastes high in alcohol, as the fumes are pretty evident in the nose, especially as you get to the bottom of the glass. Starts nice, ends horrible. Not at all drinkable. This beer is a trainwreck of flavors, and that's coming from a professed hophead.
