Yields an ember-brown color with a huge, stable beige head.
Smells of salty, smoked ham, together with sweet caramel among oaken campfire.
Has a subtle, vivid carbonation among a light and refreshing body, leading to a well nuanced effervescence in the finish.
Tastes of burned malts which inherit a pleasant toffee sweetness, getting toned down effectively by a powerful cured meat smokiness. Turns a little sweeter then as well as even more rustic, by adding a whole grain bread thickness to prominent caramel malts. Finishes salty with a note of blueberry bush, as well as fresh baked bread and oven roast.
This is very true to its style with a pungent smoke profile, which is being put on display very thoughtfully and with lots of devoted craftsmanship. Despite the omnipresent burned malts, the beer thrives from its intriguing balance, which makes this thirst quenching and easy drinking throughout.

Blind-tasted except for the beer's name and brewery/country.
L- Black to the eye but held to the light it's a veeery deep chestnut brown. Pours clear with a 1mm mid-tan cap of foam. @+10mins the thin cap holds surprisingly well.
S- Distinctly smokey, like the smell you get cleaning out the ashes from a log fireplace the morning after having a fire going.
T- Follows the smell very closely, pungently smokey. Quite hoppy dry too into the finish.
F- The feel is similar to say a similarly hoppy-dry and quite light bodied English (trad) pale ale. But of course the mega-smoke aspect here is a whole different side to the overall result.
O- You can tell it's a trad speciality and I'd reckon a pretty refined and authentic version. I spent a few years in Germany so have drunk a fair few smoked beers. Point being if the style is new to you it might be love/hate as it's certainly different, and this is one of the smokier ones I've had recently. I'd drink this again, but the flavour is pungent and might go better together with a deep/rich winter stew or similar.
Review/scoring all done, now the reveal, I get to read the can to see what I missed! ==> A German/Lithuanian collaboration.
440ml can BB: 24/10/21 £4.80 Bought from TremblingMadness, York/UK as part of a large pick-your own consignment to London.
