Ground Breaker Brewing

I visited Ground Breaker while in Portland a few weeks back during Zwicklmania. They were giving short tours of the brewhouse and it was cool to learn all about how gluten-free beers are made. Lots of millet and rice! The taproom itself is cozy with a very coffeehouse feel to it; somehow it's both eclectic and retro. It was busy when I was there but I found the service to be quick and friendly.

They had 9 beers on tap when I visited, all gluten-free of course, with styles including light lager, pale ale, dark mild, Pilsner, two IPAs, stout, a fresh hop beer, and an imperial stout. The beers I had were definitely a bit unusual in their flavor profiles, but for gluten free, were pretty solid beers. They have a kitchen, too, but I didn't eat anything while I was there.

If you travel to Portland do not go to ground breaker brewery. Worse customer service ever !!!! So far we have had excellent experiences at all of our other stops! They flame to be kid friendly and they are not! I was attacked by what I assume is the owner and said unless I can guarantee that my one year old had gluten free snacks they couldn't be on the table (they were gluten free) she then publicly shamed me said I got gluten everywhere lol when my daughter had 4 tiny little gluten free crackers on the table which I kindly picked up !!! Do not I repeat do not go here. Portland should be ashamed to have a business like this

this is the new gold standard for gluten free beer, i was blown away how much i liked their whole range of beers. a tiny little place there in portland, seating inside for maybe 20 or 25 people tops. all gluten free beers and food, many of the beers using lentils and chestnuts as a base, really neat flavors working. a solid coffee pale ale, a fun saison, and a really drinkable nutty dark ale were all rather impressive. different, i mean, its not grain based, but its beer still for sure, much closer really overall to the real thing than i ever thought possible. cool art on the walls, a place that pays attention to detail to the max. the guys working were all real nice and welcoming, happy to explain the process in an easy to understand way, and the food was baller. we had some fish tacos all from scratch that were really well done, and a great portion for the price. some nitro selections, bottled beer to go, and even a little outside seating if the sun ever shines in portland. one of the best surprises of our whole oregon trip, i think these are the best gluten free beers ive ever had.
