Head Cage is a sour ale that's been aged in Wigle Apple Brandy barrels.
Look - A one finger white fine head dissipates on top of cloudy honey.
Smell - Sharp, sour, mild funk, apple, brandy.
Taste - Very tart up front, it gives way to deep apple flavor and just the right amount of brandy. A bit of funk remains on the palate after drinking. Just a touch of peppery bite as well.
Feel - Light and effervescent.
Overall - A delightful and refreshing wild ale that has had a barrel treatment that really benefits it. Head Cage has a lot of what I enjoy in a wild ale(tart and funky) with the added depth of apple brandy. The barrel compliments the ale very well and at no point threatens to overwhelm. This is a new release that I hope is seen again in the future.
