Garnet red body with a thin, quickly disappearing head. Mild smoked wood and grain aroma. Slightly smokey flavor; mild sweetness; good hop bitterness at the finish. Medium bodied; semi-dry finish.
The bartender said this was a very smokey beer (he had a taste and said his mouth tasted like a campfire for about ten minutes). I didn't get such a strong impression. The beer isn't bad flavor-wise, but it doesn't come close to classic Bamberg rauchbiers like the Aecht Schlenkerla offerings. The feel is a little bit rough and not as smooth as one might expect for a lager. A fair but unimpressive beer.
