A - Pours a deep brown with amber tints and minimal head.

S - Toasted grain and caramel, with a touch of bitter chocolate.

T - Bitter-sweet chocolate over orange peel. Sweet caramel candy with slight alcohol esters.

M - Smooth, with almost no carbonated bubbles. Just a touch flat.

D - This beer has a decent crispness which makes it fairly easy to drink. I think it may be hiding a slightly higher ABV, but it is not very prevalent.

Well, laddie, this is what we Scots call dour, with a captial 'S.'
I have had McEwan's and several Scottish ales, and this is not in the ball park. A big mistake was to order a pitcher. I have tried 8 other Phantom Canyon beers and they are all above average - but this one, the Porter and the Stout are all SOUR! Not Guiness neutral, not Young's chocolate/coffee smooth. Dark brown but still translucent, slight head, initial mouthfeel good, then the sour hits. Look elsewhere.
