Sampled on tap at the brewpub 10/3/04.

This stout poured a dark, practically opaque black/brown color with creamy, brown foam that persisted and clung to and coated the glass. The smell was malty with notes of chocolate and a slight sweetness. The taste was lightly sweet and malty with notes of cocoa, chocolate, and mollasses. The mouthfeel was very smooth and creamy with medium-full body and low carbonation. It was dry overall, and relatively clean. This was a good, solid stout.

This stout promises a lot - but as I mentioned, delivers SOUR! I don't get it, but Phantom Canyon Porter, Scottish Ale and Stout are all cursed with a lack of even neutral taste. They all made my friends and I pucker! It poured like a stout, good head, chocolate brown, opaque, creamy head, nice aroma, mouthfeel and then the surprise! Try a different beer here.
