Experienced on-tap (hand-drawn cask ale) at Phantom Canyon's main bar...
Dark brown body with a thick, creamy, bone colored head. The aroma comes across as lightly warmed bread. The flavor boasts light caramel and chocolate with faint hints molasses and brown sugar; vanilla. The body feels smooth and creamy, medium in weight and having a mildly sweet finish.
This beer must be based on a classic English or mild ale styling (a subsequent visit to the brewery's web site confirms this is a northern England styled brown ale using yeast from McEwan's Brewery, Edinburgh, Scotland). Refreshingly restrained and mild malt-forward ale that still delivers depth and character with the taste and mouthfeel.
