Served in a typical tall glass.

A: A dark tan cloudy beer with minimal head that is made up of larger bubbles and disappears quickly with little lacing.

S: Caramel overwhelms, with some grainy/malty notes underneath.

T: Similar to the nose; sweet caramel overrides all the other flavors. Some nice malts stick out near the end, and a little toast shows up.

M: Typical for the style, not to heavy but not watery. A little syrupy with the sweetness.

D- Average, goes down fairly good, but without any darker malts or (any) hops, the sweetness detracts from the drinkability.

Overall: This would be an alright brown ale, but I don't think it represents the Scottish Ale style very well.

Poured amber with a 3/4" white head. A little lacing & a hint of head retention

S: Slight smokey & sweet smell

Taste: Nice maltyness with some smokeyness, not much. Finsihes sweet with a slight hop bite

MF: Light/medium with good carbonation & balance

Drank okay, reminded me of some 80 shilling ales I had in Scotland

Pours out to a clear, dark brown, forming a small tan head, albeit sampled in a 4 oz sampler glass. The nose is full of caramel, which is sweet and burnt, like burnt marshmallows. No peatiness or smoke entertained here. Medium strong herbal bitterness which is atypical for the style opens the beer, but then is followed by the burnt marshmallow taste, and when I say burnt, I mean burnt to a crisp, black and ashy. Moderate isopropyl alcohols are out of style as well. Very woodsy finish. Despite this character flaws, it's strangely satisfying, but a sampler is quite enough.
