The stonehead stout from Phantom Canyon was a disappointing brew. The aroma gave no clue upon that which I was to about embark. The beer exhibited a very strong smoked flavor much like "burnt bacon". Overall this is likely the worst product of the nine beers I tasted at the Phantom Canyon Brewery. The beer body was ok, but most of the other characteristics were below average.

Worst Stout I have ever had! Poured black with , with a small tan head.Nose was boring and bland. Taste was of ummm no roasted malt or flavor, no backbone and it was watery. The finish is rather a snoozer, no taste or nothing to ponder.. Save your money for the average IPA on tap.

Pours mahogany with 1.5" of tan head. Concentric rings of lacing all the way down & pretty good head head retention
S: Some chocolate & roasted malt, not a bunch
T: Nice subtle chocolate notes up front. A slight hint of coffee & nuttyness as this warms. Finishes roasty with nice chocolate notes
mF: Creamy & rich with perfect carbonation
Drank like mother's milk!

A - 1/2" beige head with a perfect collar. Good retention and solid lacing from this dark, dark brown stout.
S - Sweet, very subtle malt. Mildest dark fruit.
T - Hints of roasted malt and coffee. Very mild and subtle overall.
M - Medium body with low carbonation. Very similar to Murphy's or Guiness Draught.
D - Good drinkability. Session style stout. Very true to style across the board. Just a little mild across the board for my liking.

Pours out to a clear black with brown accents, forming a moderate tan head with good retention and lacing despite being served in a 4oz sampler glass. Pulled from a beer engine, so slightly warmer than usual and lower in carbonation. Aroma of marshmallow sweetness, strong vanilla, slight sourness and burnt grains. The taste begins quite burnt, ashen and grainy, then has an interesting "Guinness-like" sourness in the middle. Well-balanced bitterness. The finish is unfortunately ruddy. Medium bodied. A slightly above-average stout. Would be better on a nitro-tap IMO.
