An 80 shilling Scottish ale...
The body appeared a ruddy brown with a thin yet lingering head; plenty of lacing and rings down the glass. The aroma came across deep and rich with hints of caramel and nuts. The taste gave a rich malt flavor with some esters and a faint pumpkin-like flavor; excellent hop bitterness complemented the malt sweetness. The body felt medium, smooth, and dry at the finish.
This is a very satisfying Scottish ale. There is plenty of gentle malt goodness without being overbearing, and the hop bittering seemed very well-balanced with the malts. Great balance overall, wonderful complexity, very easy drinking. I'll be back for more...
