Served on tap in a point glass
Appearance – The beer is served a amber red color with a one finger head of fizzy white foam. The head fades very rapidly leaving just a hint of lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the beer is heaviest of a caramel smell mixed with some other aromas of a little bit of a bready aroma. These smells are joined by some light scotch smells as well as a little bit of an herbal and grassy smell as well.
Taste – Upfront the taste is strongest of a sweeter caramel taste as would have been anticipated from the nose. Along with these flavors comes some tastes of a bready and lightly roasted flavor. The caramel gets stronger and stronger as the taste advances, being joined by some lighter tastes of a fruity nature with a bit of cherry and apple. Along with all the sweeter taste, the bready flavor transitions to a more doughy like flavor with it also bringing on just a hint of a scotch like flavor. A tiny bit of grass and hay come at the very end, and with the other flavors, ends up leaving a rather nice sweet and easy drinking flavor to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the average side for a 5.7 % abv. brew with it containing a carbonation level that is rather average to a little bit higher. For the sweet and doughty flavors of the brew, the feel is great, and makes for a rather easy drinking and highly flavorful brew overall.
Overall – This is a tasty Irish red ale with a great sweet malty flavor, all balanced by just enough hop and a tiny bit of a boozy taste. One to try if you get a chance.
