Sometimes a beer you accidentally come across it and then you go into that with low expectations and it just vaults 10 feet above them. This is that beer. Pours a dark brown, with a lighter brown head on top of it in the 1/4" range. Aroma is complex, smoke, burnt malt, char, peat, earth, brown malt, C hops. War is in the air. The burnt garrisons and homes of those who stood in the way. Fog. Its burnt.
Taste is more of the earthen malt, slightly burnt, campfire coffee from the malt, peat from the tree, the earth all around. A slight hop bitterness, perhaps some Cascade, possibly Chinook. This isn't a hoppy porter by any means. The carbonation is mild and appropriate. So many of these aspects could make a beer for the worse, but they play in nice proportion to each other. I dunno that I would want to drink 16oz at a time of this, but a 4oz pour is really nice to check out for sure.
