Canned 01/31/18
Appearance - Pours hazy and deep, muddy orange with a white, creamy looking half finger's width head. Good retention before dying down to a thin, consistent layer of suds. Strong lacing, with velvety sheets, broken lines and spots decorating the glass.
Smell - Sweet and bitter orange notes, with lesser vanilla and floral character. Wheat-like malt aroma sitting beneath.
Taste - Follows the nose. Sweet orange and vanilla upfront before some of that fleshy, pithy bitterness kicks in. Malts offer a wheaty, cereal grain tasting backbone. Light, floral notes come through mid-taste. Finish is more sweet than bitter, with orange and vanilla notes found lingering well into the aftertaste.
Mouthfeel - Medium-bodied, with light, tingly carbonation. Firm, slightly creamy texture with a semi-dry, slightly chalky finish. Easy drinker at 8.2%.
Overall - A pretty good milkshake DIPA, though it didn't quite live up to the hype that I'd heard. It doesn't quite scratch that 'orange creamsicle' itch, as it lacks the sweetness needed and there are other flavor components present. As such, it's still a nicely flavored and well-rounded brew, and I won't have any issue drinking the rest.
