Bourbon BA First Gear

Had this at Kinetic’s first annual Barleywine Fest a few weeks ago. They took their First Gear barleywine and aged it in two Heaven Hill bourbon barrels for 6 months. There was a solid sampling of barleywines at the fest; Old Guardian, Old Dipsea, Old Numbskull, Cockeyed Cooper, and several others, but the BA First Gear was by far my favorite. In fact, our whole group of beer geeks were all taken back by it and was a unanimous favorite. The First Gear is a solid beer, but the barrel aging knocked it out of the park. Great mouth feel, perfect nose of vanilla and caramel and tasted great. What else do you need. I believe they will be bottling it in the near future, so I’ll be stocking up what I can.
