22oz bottle into snifter. Bottle dated 11/3/16. Consumed July 2017.
A: Caramel brown with a thick tan head faded into thin collar. Soapy lace.
S: Huge rye whiskey nose. Boozey and spicy, notes of leather and caramel, powdery chocolate and hints of fig-like dark fruits.
T: Tons of booze on the palate. Surprisingly young tasting, although this bottle isn't very old I guess. Lots of heat but delicious rye spice flavor. Bitter leafy earthy hop lingers in the finish along with notes of vanilla, toast, and more spicy rye.
M: Full body, slightly sharp carbonation and some booze that is rough around the edges. Slick greasy mouthfeel but drying finish. Spicy overall, but there's some balancing sticky sweetness.
O: Rough around the edges. Solid flavor but a bit tough to handle after a while. Bottle should be aged for a couple years at least; way too fresh right now. I drank this alongside a glass of the rye whiskey and they tastes exactly the same, which was a pretty cool experience in that sense.
