On a strangely muggy Saturday afternoon in July, I cruised into town for the weekend on the heels of a sudden bottle release of West Ashley the day before, hoping against hope there might be some leftover. There wasn't, but as a consolation, there was this fun Cask experiment pouring (plus, I didn't have to explain to my wife why our weekend getaway had to start with me standing in line for a couple hours, so maybe it was for the best).
A really nice variant of a brewery house beer. Chavez carries something of a lighter body and a restrained flavor profile, so it offers a lot of space to drop in added ingredients. Vanilla in a porter is something of a no-brainer at this point, and works well here, while the sarsaparilla adds a bitterness on the back end, as well as a root beer flavor. Perhaps this is comparable to those trending alcoholic root beers?
And then there's the Cask factor, too. I love Cask beers, with the creaminess and richness you get in the mouthfeel and body.
Very nice overall. Hope I get a chance to drink it again someday. Betting I won't.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
