Good cheap continental beer, with a decent depth of flavour and no repellant under or over tones. Less than £1.50 a litre, in ring pulls (500ml), from Lidl and standing at 4.8% ABV this is a good buy. Lively if not well chilled.

Usual lager style body but with very small head, medium carbonation. Smell of ammonia or something else from heavy industry. Taste of cereals and a bitter punch followed by a solvent off note. Not entirely pleasant . Feel is watery and sparkly, quite sweet on the mouth. Not exactly thirst quenching. Relatively inoffensive on the whole but not very pleasurable and will only drink again if given to me.

A perfectly decent, budget lager. I have had this a few times now, and the initial surprise must've worn off.
What I have come to expect from cheap lagers (and, to my shame, I've tried a fair few) is oversweet, fizzy, and full of foul, back-of-the-nose co2 aftertaste.
Honestly this ain't any kind of great beer, but it puts many, pricier, well-known lagers to shame on flavor, finish, and price.
So, what do we have... A fair, sharp, initial flavour (maybe notes of straw?) which belies the slightly dull and, err, greasy? nose. I've smelled worse from really good beers, so honestly I don't punish it to harshly for that. It holds a little head decently enough and doesn't go foul and flat straight away. The finish is a little flintier than I'd expect, but I quite like that in a lager.
So, yeah. At least it's not Carling.

Life Changing Beer

This beer changed my life or at least my beer drinking life. I got this at a discount grocery store. I like trying new things. I'm the first one in the pool. And if I see a new beer, then I'll pick it up so I picked this up. This is such a boring beverage. There is nothing interesting about this. The taste is unremarkable. The smell is off-putting.

So I have decided that I'm not going to waste my taste buds on just any beer that I see. There are some extremely good beers out there, and I just don't want to fill my belly with average crap when I could be drinking something extraordinary.

Brasserie Champigneulles (TCB Beverages) "Galereux"
330 ml. green glass bottle, "Best If Used By: 12.07.2017" and sampled on 06.20.2017
$6.49/six-pack @ Lidl, Virginia Beach, VA

Look: Clear deep gold body beneath a short head of bright white that falls readily and leaves only minor lacing behind.

Smell: Skunked. Sweetish grainy malt with just a touch of grassy and lightly herbal hops.

Taste: As the aroma suggests. The sweetish malt is balanced by a stiff bitterness, and it finishes dry with some lingering herbal and grassy notes.

Feel: Light-medium in body with a crisp, standard carbonation.

Overall: Skunky aroma aside, Galereux is a basic, otherwise clean and well balanced Euro lager that matches its budget price point.
