It's a very thin beer. Washed out,
Flavor is okay, there is a roasty malt factor but the thinness and washed out feel distracts from the taste.

The bottle backlog continues to fall in the wake of my decision to eradicate bottles from at least my kitchen and perhaps from my inventory. I am awash in the daggum things and they are standing between me and The CANQuest (TM) and I will not abide it any longer. I had purchased this at The Friendly Greek's Bottle Shop and added it to the site, but I had to wait for pic approval, which is part of the reason that the backlog occurs. I wish that they could streamline the picture approval process ...
From the bottle: "Philly Beer Geek"; "In collaboration with: Michael Ryan Lawrence PBG 2013 Winner"; "Philly Philms".
For those not in the know, the poor fellow sporting the black eye on the label is Irish expat is Fergie or Fergie's Pub on Sansom Street in Philadelphia. Cheers, boyo!
I almost lost this one last night, but it fell on my foot on its way to the floor. It might have had a softer time falling on my head, but I got lucky all the same. I put it back in the reefer to settle back down, only to sneak up on it this morning, pop off its cap, utilize an aggro pour, sit back and watch the pseudo-cascade and get ready for its consumption. Don't f**k with me, beer! I have your number. I got a bref finger of light-tan head that quickly fell to wisps. Color was a deep dark-brown (SRM = 44), allowing zero light penetration. The nose smelled of coffee with cream and sugar! I usually take my coffee hot and black, like some of my women, but this smelled great. Mouthfeel was medium, approaching fullness. The taste was like Baby Bear's Stout - not too bitter, not too sweet, but just right! It struck a nice balance between chocolatiness, smokiness and bitterness. We often talk of sessionable beers, but at 4.3%, I could drink a buncha these! Now, before you turn me in to have my Hophead status revoked, understand that I have drank a LOT of AIPAs lately and this represented a nice alternative. Finish was semi-dry, but not as dry as some Dry Stouts that I have had. See my previous comments in this regard.

Poured from a growler into an Imperial Pint glass.
Dark black color with a small 1/2 finger head.
Aromas of dark roasted coffee, bitter chocolate and roasted malts
Taste matches the aromas: Plenty of dark roasted coffee, sweeter chocolate and nice roastiness from the malts.
Mouthfeel is a little thin, but I don't think that detracts from this beer too much as other Irish Dry Stouts that I have had are very easy drinkers. Not a lot of carbonation to it either, might be lost from the growler, however when I had it at the brewery it wasn't over carbonated then either.
Overall I love this beer and the easy with which you can drink it down. Not too heavy, yet not too light. Very enjoyable to sit back on the porch and drink on a warm day.
