New England style American pale ale, hopped with a ridiculous amount of Ekuanot, Mosaic, Cascade and Centennial. Fresh lemon citrus and tropical fruit hop profile

A bit too thin and lemony for my tastes.

A: Slight hazy golden-lemon coloring shows a quick release of macro-bubbles mixed with a dense and equally quick paced showering of micro-effervesce. A bright white head is shortly lasting leaving a patchy covering, with a bubbly surface. Broken one inch lace band encircle the vessel.

S: Fresh burst of lime and citrus is first on the nose, really wet, along with some grapefruit juice. A bit of green melon of good strength per 4.5% abv.

T: Bright and crisp flavor, lemon-lime hops deliver a sharp bite with a dry lemon peel finish.

M: Crisp grains. Crisp mouthful, very sharp carbonation and light bodied.

O: Overall a crisp drinking session style ipa, light bodied, easy drinking with a wet nose and well suited flavor. easy drinking 4.5%

I don't know what this is. It's got "New England" on the label...I don't get that. It's listed as American Pale Ale...I don't get that. Its low ABV makes me think session IPA...but not quite. Pours hazy yellow with a loose white head that drops out to light lacing and then to nothing. Smell is lemon, citrus, peach. Taste is mostly citrus fruits, no bitterness, but a sour, pithy taste that's not terrible but not great either. Mouthfeel is light with a zippy carbonation that leaves a clean taste. Overall, it seems to be a beer that is trying to find an identity but maybe doesn't quite fit in to any one? Not bad, but not great.

Slightly hazy. Pours lighter / less hazy than some other New England IPAs

Yes, can taste the lemon zest.
Thin, not so rich taster.
I like New England style IPA's, but this is one of my least favorite.
Its okay.

12 oz can poured into a Sam Adams Perfect Pint glass.

Appearance
Extra hazy blonde. Short white head. Light carbonation.

Nose
Lemon, grapefruit, peach, passion fruit, and candy sugar.

Taste
Tangy lemon and pithy grapefruit. Coming off sour... Peach tanginess. Hint of biscuit and candy sugar maltiness.

Mouthfeel
Light bodied, crisp, and tart.

Overall
I'm not sure what's going on with this batch. It tastes closer to a Berliner than a Session IPA.

Free Will Brewing Co. "Micro Manager"
12 fl. oz. can, "CANNED ON 05/15/18"
$2 @ Giant, Havertown, PA

Notes via stream of consciousness: So what do we have here, a New England style IPA? Cool. It's got a low starting gravity though, just 10.8 Plato / 1.043 specific gravity? Ahhh, that'll probably do. What's the alcohol though? Yeah, just 4.5%. OK, let's see. It's poured a cloudy, pale yellow gold body beneath a short head of white. It smells of grapefruit and lemon with some earthiness and pine. The flavor seems a bit watery - I knew there wasn't going to be enough malt in there - but it's got the same lemon and grapefruit as well as some tangerine, peach, and pine. There's very little malt flavor to it, but it's quite citrusy and a bit acidic. It's almost more of a gose sans the salt, and certainly not a NE IPA in my opinion - at least I've never tasted a NE IPA like this. I do like the color though, but I should also point out that the head dropped to a standard collar quite quickly and left only a few spots of lacing at the outset. In the mouth it's medium-light in body and crisply effervescent. Overall it's refreshing, and probably great if you really like citrus, but it's quite one-dimensional. I was disappointed with the first few sips, liked the next few a little more, and then found it rather boring and old hat. It'd be nice on a hot summer day but that's about all I can really say for it.

Pale yellow in color with a light haze. Poured with a short, soapy, bright white foam with low retention. Light malt aromas. Mellow, muted citrus and lemon zest hop aromas. Medium light bodied with high, slightly acidic carbonation. Over ripe citrus and lemon flavors with light malt beneath. Medium, lightly tart, bitterness through the middle. Cloying fruity citrus from the middle to the end. Finishes semi-dryly with lingering citrus bitterness. Balance was good with more hop character than malt character. Although, hop flavors were a bit lifeless and muddled. Generally not a fan of the light ipa style.

A thanks to the prince of pale ale, woodychandler, for this beer. Poured from a 12 oz. can. Has a bright yellow color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of pineapples, citrus. Taste is the same, juicy, tart, dry, no bitterness. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is decent as a pale ale.

Fresh can under 30 days. Pours extremely light watery straw with very small soda pop head and no lace. Nose is light lemon and straw...almost strikes me like a light gose. Taste is very watered down, slightly sour, and has a little citrus. Sort of like a light watered down and slightly sour saison. Honestly, it tastes like a mistake. Overall, probably crushable on a hot summer day, but have no idea what they were going for here.

Purchased for $2.69 at Monde Market

L - 1-finger fizzy head atop a translucent yellow body.

S - caramel malt, pine, some citrus.

T - follows the nose. Plus some skunkiness/cheesiness that is offputting.

F - light body.

O - don’t care for the flavors here.
