Plot Thickens… - Bourbon and Scotch Barrel Aged Imperial Stout with Cacao Nibs, Madagascar Vanilla, Graham Cracker, and Milk Sugar. 13.1% ABV

Like the rest of these beers in our new stout program, we blended together a wide variety of liquids to formulate this final result.

This beer is one part bourbon barrel aged stout rested upon loads of the finest cacao nibs from Pierre's Chocolates, one part bourbon barrel aged stout aging on heaps of Madagascar vanilla beans, one part bourbon barrel aged stout loaded up with graham cracker crumbles, of course the base beer, and then topped up with just a wisp of Scotch barrel aged beer.

We feel this one slides in nicely for the changing seasons nearly upon us. A wee bit of campfire and crispy fall leaves on the nose, followed by notes of melted milk chocolate, graham, and toasted marshmallow. A real treat for the evening time.

Poured from a small can at fridge temp. Pours jet black with a little bit of light brown head.

Nose: Incredibly interesting. I can't immediately tell that this isn't only bourbon barrel aged. I love scotch, and I can pick up some on the nose. Not sure what type of scotch barrel was used, but I'm thinking something like Glenfarclas or other Speyside. Definitely not a peated scotch. Also getting nice notes of graham crackers, vanilla, chocolate, honey, maple, yeast, and a hint of black licorice, Not getting much in the way of dark fruit.

Taste: Oh baby. This one comes barreling in with a foot on the gas pedal. Toffee, bourbon, spice, oak, scotch, vanilla, dark chocolate, chewing tobacco, licorice, coffee grounds, roasted malts, a bit of charred wood - leftovers in the fire pit. Arrives sweet and leaves bitter. Mouth coating. The alcohol is absolutely there - no mistake. My only complaint is that it's a bit scattered. I wonder if a bit more time would even out the edges and bring it together a bit more. This is a very minor point as I am absolutely loving this one.

Mouthfeel and overall: Mouthfeel is definitely viscous and chewy. Overall, I really love this one. The nose and the taste really stretch the senses and it attacks from all angles. It's a fun one to sip for a 20 minutes as it does change a bit over time. Definitely one to seek out!
