Cola black with a half finger of dark mocha head. A little soupy up top and very solid retention and lacing.
Moderate smokiness to the nose, reminiscent of an ancho pepper. That sits on top of strong RIS impressions, like umami, some vanilla and dry cocoa. Not my favorite mix.
Again, pretty smoky up front. The other flavors aren’t too intense, but are very present. Wood, ash, a little umami, cocoa, light vanilla, a hint of cherry.
The feel comes across a little more milky than creamy. Modest carbonation.
People who like smoke may like this more than I do. I don’t find the flavors particularly well melded, and the whole thing leaves me wanting some pepper heat or cinnamon.

This is a beer that smacks you in the face and demands to be adored. So I do. It may seem strange I give a 4.25 for taste having said this, but the boozy double whammy of the mezcal and bourbon is so distinct and bold as to be a tad overpowering. Nevertheless, this is a special beer. Beautiful, rich, smooth and flavorful. It does the Ralphius series well indeed!
