Sampling a 12.7 oz bottle from 2020 at cellar temp and pouring into my snifter.
The beer pours a dark black coffee color with a fizzy tan head that is extremely short lived, I didnt even catch it in my photo. There is no remnant of foam anywhere in the glass.
Aroma is some dark chocolate and whiskey notes with a good dose of fusol alcohol as well. Im surprised it still smells so hot after being in the cellar for almost 2 years. No real hop character on the nose, but I do get a little bit of charred wood and some leather notes buried behind the booziness.
First sip reveals a fairly thick body with a smooth texture and soft almost non existent carbonation. Beer leaves a sticky coating across my palate with each sip.
Flavor is roasted malt and molasses up front followed by dark chocolate and whiskey and then a bunch of warming heat. In my mouth and certainly on the swallow, this is boozy. I also get some brown sugar and dark fruit notes after the swallow. Again, no hops on this one.
the whisky also lingers a bit and almost seems more like doing a shot than sipping a beer at times.
This is a big boozey beer with good malt character. Very glad I got to try this one. Its definitely a sipper though!
