Near black with a thin, soupy mocha head that has shocking good retention.
In the bottle it smelled great. Strong cinnamon softened by some sweet cherry and wood. Sitting in the glass, there’s some soap and a soggy cardboard element added that kicks the experience down many levels.
The taste continues with that soapiness and a soggy cardboard, soggy log, mushroom component mixed in with the cinnamon. Lightly smoky. Rye spice and a herbal note show in the finish. It has an astringent bitter aspirin, wooden, ashen aftertaste.
The mouthfeel is fantastic: silky, thick, with soft carbonation.
I love Ralphius and I love amburana. The 2023 Amburana Ralphius was among my least favorite of either. This is a slight step above, but still not to my taste.

Poured at just warmer than fridge temp. Pours a thick black with very little brown head. The nose is wonderful. The amburana wood pops immediately, which I love! So glad it's front and center. Rye, chocolate, slight smoke, spice, and vanilla also come through.
The taste is incredible. Smoky, tobacco, coffee, amburana, cinnamon, barrel char, rye, dirt, and some interesting bitterness. Almost a citrus peel bitterness, but masked by the cinnamon and chocolate. Truly a unique taste on this one.
The mouthfeel is thick and creamy. The aftertaste leans more bitter than sweet. In fact, there is not much sweetness on this beer at all. Lovely beer overall.
