Pours black with a half finger of dark khaki head that quickly settles into sloppy crown. Minimal spots of lacing.
Restrained aroma of chocolate, a little caramel and just a hint of rye spice.
The rye spiciness shines more in the taste, layered over cola, light chocolate, light caramel and light char and ash. Moderately strong alcohol heat is present throughout — but lightyears less than the 17-month Kentucky Owl I recently opened, making it seem almost easy drinking in comparison.
Fairly full bodied with any carbonation hidden by the strong rye character.
Rye fans will love this one. The spice really pops in the taste, and there’s a nice balance of sweet and robust flavors to complement it.
