Served in a growler. Drank and reviewed within an hour of growler fill.

Poured into a DFH shaped pint glass. Appears fairly clear with a slight haze. The nice yellow color you would expect from this style. Has a below average, white head that dissipates pretty quickly and leaves no lacing.

Nose is spicy, with hints of sweetness and banana. The spice is definitely the dominate feature. Tastes sweet up front with a slight balancing factor in the middle and finishes spicy. Black pepper, a slight hint of citrus and banana.

The mouthfeel is slightly flat, with a medium to light body. Finishes light and refreshing. Overall, a nice brew to finish off a hot day with. Something to change things up, and very refreshing. This is something I will most likely purchase again, as the fiancée loved it.

On tap in a pint glass at Woodlands Tavern on 1/30/12

Pale, watery straw gold with a mild haziness. The head is under a finger's worth, becoming nothing but a skim in moments.

Aromas of fermenting apple juice, pear, veggies, metal shavings, wet and grass, clove, stunted spice and a floral bent. It smells like New School Columbus.

The taste is pretty impressive in a "we tried to make dirt taste like hop bitterness and toasted grain" sort of way. Biscuit grit is accented by brash carbonation. Notes of fruit are watery and the overall feel is thin. Spices linger on the finish. It's dry enough, but that weird bitterness picks up toward the end, too. Somehow the back end exhibits a burnt, charred flavor. What the hell?

Overall impression? I can't say I'm impressed. Maybe an ok start? This is no worse than any random Neil House beer. I'll wait to see what the APA is all about.
