ratebeer.com has this listed as a "stout", but their categories are a bit broader, so here for beeradvocate, i decided to just go with "english stout", since it didn't seem to fit into export/foreign given the low ABV
the actual origin is also a bit confusing, as this is apparently not from the main tsingtao brewery, but from "tsingtao brewery no. 3"
pours dark cola with a head that dissapates completely and leaves no lace.
aroma of chocolate at first whiff, sweet and pleasing, but not much else.
flavor packs lots of roasted malt and chocolate and even coffee-like notes. there is a sweet/sour tinge, with moderate bitterness.
mouthfeel is much thinner than would be expected from a dark beer. slight astringency and roughness on palate.
drinkable, and i suppose not a total failure. much better than something like yanjing dark, which tasted like traditional herbal medicine, although that sets the bar kind of low.
