I recently found a source for Chinese beers, especially anything available in CANs in furtherance of The CANQuest (tm)! I got in my weekly Watermelon Wednesday, so now I will be turning my attention to Stouts for the balance of the evening.
From the CAN: "Since 1903".
I Crack!ed it open like I was in the middle of Chinatown & gave it an inverted Glug since it held a mere 330 ml. The foam came rushing up to form two fingers of dense, rocky, deep-tan/light-brown head with decent retention. Color was Very Dark Brown to Black/Opaque (SRM = > 34, < 44) with mahogany highlights. Nose had a rich, slightly salty odor, kind of reminiscent of soy sauce. I am not trying to be funny or demeaning, but that is what came to mind. Mouthfeel was thin-to-medium. The taste was very roasty, but more smoky than charcoal and when coupled with a slight saltiness, I CANtinue to stand behind my earlier mention of soy sauce. I found it to be a pleasantly unexpected surprise, actually. Warming, it took on a chocolaty smokiness, but the saltiness remained throughout. It seemed to beg for chips or pretzels as an acCANpaniment. Finish was semi-dry with a strange amalgam of flavors lingering well past the swallow. It probably is not for everyone, but I liked it.

With this beer, I feel like Tsingtao redeemed themselves. It's in many ways a wannabe Guinness. It's very dark, full, and flavorful. It seems like they're trying to hard, however, as it's not as smooth as Guinness, which in my opinion is the epitome of stout beer.

Didn't know they made a stout, so brought it back from China to share (prank) rudzud.
Light fizzy head, fades quickly, dark mahogany sight ruby color.
Nose is just about the worst thing I've ever smelled, rotten tomatoes and malt soy sauce, mineral earthy vegetal mess, corn straw adjunct.
Taste is slightly less horrible, watery choc malt thing, hot dog water, soy malt, corn adjunct, watered mineral malt. Mild bitter thing late.
Mouth light, watery, decent carb I think.
Overall wicked awesome dude!

Thanks to JLindros for bringing this back from China. Jackass.
A - Poured into a Kate the Great tulip a dark brown hue with a fizzy head that fades to leave a fat halo.
S - Aromas of tobacco, old vegetables, light some, leather, stale malts, oof.
T - Taste is similar to the nose, just worse. Rotten vegetative, hotdog water (seriously, wtf), old malts, light char. Really awful.
M - Mouthfeel is lightly carbonated, swampy.
O - Overall this beer was, well, horrific. Swamp hotdog water. Thanks Jared.

This is just an ok stout that really tasted like a cheap German schwarzbier. It was metallic tasting and sweet. When in China, it is a good alternative to their piss lagers.

It is a pitiful travesty on a stout. In my mind this is a shwartzbeer.

Had this in Shanghai. Glad to find a stout there. This was just okay though, mostly due to the 7.5% ABV. Mass produced and seemed like it.
