Served on tap in a pint glass
Appearance- The beer is served a lightly hazed reddish-amber color with a tiny head of white foam. The head fades relatively quickly leaving a scant level of lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the brew is heaviest of a mix of bready, grapefruit hop, some light caramel and a decent showing of a more herbal hop flavor. Some other very light aromas of a tropical fruit and grassy smell are there as well, producing a somewhat mild but nice aroma overall.
Taste- Holly hop monster Batman. This one, even at only at 7 % abv., tastes like pure hop. There is a lighter bready taste at the start with a huge hit of a grapefruit hop flavor right from the start. The grapefruit grows even stronger as the taste advances with it being joined by tons of pine and grassy hops as the taste moves onto the end. There is a lighter caramel and tangerine sweetness upfront which fade as the taste advances to the end. With the fading sweet and the increase in the hop, a super hopped and slightly drier cracker flavor is left to linger on the tongue at the end.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is on the rather average with a carbonation level that is rather average as well. For the super hopped up and drier flavor of the brew the thickness was just right, but a little more carbonation may have been slightly more appropriate. Overall the feel was pretty good though and made for a nice medium for the flavor profile.
Overall –This is a quite hoppy brew with a rather dry feel overall. A little too hoppy for hops sake with not quite enough malt to balance it out for me. If you are a pure hop head, then this is a good go to, but if you like a bit more balance with malt and sweet in an IPA, you may want to shy away from this one.
