On-draught @ the brewpub. Half a litre for 5 euro - steep, especially considering Open Baladin across the city charges 4.50 a pour. Regrettably brief notes below:
HEAD: ~4cm wide. White colour. Soft looking. Lasts ~7 minutes.
BODY: Translucent transparent copper of average vibrance. No yeast/less is visible within.
AROMA: Mild smokiness, with that classic rauchbier pork/bacon character. Clean saccharomyces yeast character. Mild floral hop character. Copper/caraMunich malt sweetness. No harshness at all.
TASTE: Smokiness is less prominent than the aroma suggested (maybe a 2/10 in terms of intensity at most). CaraMunich malts lend this its body. That's about it, but the meaty character of the smoke is likeable.
Rather insipid for the style, to be honest. Or at least quite shallow.
TEXTURE: Medium-bodied, smooth, wet, well-carbonated, unrefreshing. Not oily, gushed, hot, astringent, acidic, boozy, scratchy, or rough.
OVERALL: A simple rauchbier with minimal smoke. Drinkable albeit unremarkable. I was excited to see a rauchbier in Italy, but a rauchbier that doesn't embrace it's smoked malt is no better than an IPA that doesn't embrace its hops. Not a brew I'd buy again at its this price point, but decent.
