Brought back from Brazil, best by 2021/01/20
Pours a light fizzy off-white 1/2 finger head with moderate retention, nice soapy lacing, very hazy dark ruby to auburn red color
Nose nice hops with some citrus and pine, a bit zesty and floral as well, fresh Cascadian hop cones, but balanced by sweet caramel and toasted malts, a bit of a candy malt character
Taste brings more sweet malts up front, quite malty for IPA but likely old-world IPA, sweet caramel malts, toasted grain and bread crust, fair hops but seems a bit old as the date shows, spicy piney hops with some generic fruit and citrus as well, somewhere between Cascadian hops and English level, hard to tell due to age, but this does seem more like English IPA style, med to a bit lighter bitterness, hops getting more spicy and floral as it finishes, a bit drier but sticky, and more sweet malt
Mouth is med bod, med to a bit lighter fizzy carb
Overall as a big fan of malt-forward beers this was quite tasty, the malt presence was very nice, hops are a bit less so as they lie somewhere between Cascadian American hops and English bitter spicy floral hops, the label calls this American IPA which it is not quite, it's def closer to English IPA which is pretty nice for that style though
