Laurel Highlands Pale Ale
From the All Saints Website
Brewery Description: Small beer, big stink. We wanted to produce a session beer that is extremely hop forward, relatively low alcohol, and very little lingering hop bitterness. We procured the most delicate, most thirst quenching malts to produce a very light, delicate, and refreshing beer. Featuring a crazy amount of hops with over a pound and a quarter in every keg.
Formula Notes:
Style – Wheat Pale Ale
Alcohol Content – 4.6% ABV
IBU’s – 35
Hops Used – Columbus & Cascade
Malts Used – Pilsen, Wheat, Cara Vienne, Aromatic
On to the review:
LOOK: Pours a slightly hazed copper, white head and plenty of lacing.
SMELL: Leafy, floral hops. Cascade hopping leaves a trademark scent of leafy and citrusy hop. Some light sweet candy like wheat notes.
TASTE: Sessionable brew with flavors a dry wheat, clove, citrus tea, mint, menthol, leaves, and a mild breadiness. There is a firm kilned malt flavor. The brew is perfectly balanced, and though the brewery claims this is hop forward, I find it just well hopped.
FEEL: Light to medium bodied, medium carbonation, not quite thin but has a looser feel and a wet then drying finish. Not trying to make this sound bad, the beer is easy to drink and quite refreshing.
OVERALL: A good take on a well hopped wheat. It is a good change of pace beer and would make an excellent pairing from savory to spicy dishes. I'd take this to go with a sandwich and fried potatos, or with a spicy buffalo chicken dip.
