On draft into a pint glass. Dark brown in color with a nice, 2 finger head of tan foam. An earthy, piney sweetness dominates the aroma with faint hints of potpourri. Despite it's daunting appearance, it's actually quite light weight - moreso than most brown ales I've had in the past. Pine resin up front with an almost overwhelming spruce bite on the taste. It balances out as it warms on the palate, but there's still quite a bit of bitter spruce character from start to finish. Finishes smooth enough, and leaves a resiny, dank aftertaste.

Bold, sweet and malty- the common citrus rind flavor and piney bitterness of American brown ale has been given a nice swift kick to the pants with a sprucy shadow that hovers over the session from sip 'til finish.
Its obvious brown austere carries a slight haze to segway into a perfumy, woodsy and resinous balance. But before then, its the burnt caramel, toffee and mild chocolate and coffee grounds that do the work load.
Its malty-sweet middle is nutty with cashew and brittle flavors. Lightly biscuit, its light creamy starch hints toward milkshake. But once the sharpness of hops counter, elements of burnt citrus peel and pinecone are illuminated to balance the sweet and bready body.
A lingering sweetness seeks out the proper hop aide, but is intercepted with torn spruce needles, sappy resinous and a smooth, fresh sawdust character. With echoes of woodsy perfume wafting about, the ale remains tame, mild and sweet.
