The old world of farmhouse brewing and the new world of American hops collide in Country Boy's Simcoe Dry Hopped Saison. The natural earthiness of the beer borrows the pungency of grassy simcoe hops for a beer aroma that chases the scent of the meadow.
And that's if that's a meadow of marijuana plants. The beer's rife and pungent scent is remiss of cannabis, chive and calm garlic. Peppery, earthy and grassy, its dankness layers on a hazy base of straw and gold. To taste, the underlying saison plays a short and sweet tune with light breads, faint dough and light confectioner's sweetness.
As the palate progresses, its sweetness drifts and the beer's premiere spiciness takes hold. Before that, its the estery taste of apple, pear, orange and lemon to create a zesty, citrusy taste. Soft canteloup and white wine attributes fade into a balance of pepeprcorn, cumin, and vinous acidity. The light taste of damp hay gives a weathered grassiness to the finish with a dry bitter taste.
Medium-bodied and trending dry, the beer's carbonation is moderate and keeps the taste slightly on the weighted side and highlighting the beer's slim residual sweetness and having the beer to taste as much of Belgian pale than of farmhouse. Lingering bitterness and grassiness play into a medium-length aftertaste.
