While most drinkers readily associate German wheat beer with the tropical taste of banana, the Country Boys give the classic hefeweizen an upgrade with coconut in hopes to take the tastebuds on a more convincing tropical vacation.
Pouring a dull and murky haze and releasing a scant and partially fizzy froth, Coconut Hefeweizen carries a lackluster appearance into a scent of light banana, clove, bread dough and raw grain. And that rawness translates to a grainy taste that's straight from the mash tun. Honey, dull caramel and dough frame the beer's early palate.
As the yeast spices and esters begin to reveal themselves on the middle palate, those mild banana and clove flavors bring out the hefeweizens best qualities. The addition of coconut is mild and brings a tangy vanilla taste backed by apple, lemon and pear as the carbonation falls short of assisting in balance.
Medium bodied and laying weightily on the tongue, the beer's tacky and dull breadiness simply makes the beer unappealing and lifeless. Country Boy is a very good brewery, but this beer simply falls way short of expectations.

On tap at the brewery.
Pours pale, hazy golden with a white head. Spotty lacing.
The aroma is lightly funky. The flavor is too but still delicate with wheat, faint coconut and light bready notes. Light body and medium-light carbonation.
