Reeling in chocoholics near and far, the brewers at Country Boy roll into a new year of brewing with a beer of utter decadence. Toasted coconut, chocolate, cream and good ole' fashion Kentucky whisky provide the framework for a beer that's every bit as much dessert as it is ale.
Coconut Fudge Barreled Wooley Swamp pours devilishly black with pearls of broken lace. Its rich scent is nearly drool worthy with chocolate, bourbon, toast nuttiness and an all around Mounds candy character. Its lavish maltiness slathers the tastebuds with unabashed toffee, chocolate, caramel, sorghum and sweet cream to start.
Those malt flavors show no rush to wander off. Instead, the additional flavors of dark roast coffee, walnut and heavy toast join the flavor matrix for balance and yet more complexity. Subtle flavors of cream, vanilla and sweet coconut complete the fudge-like promises before the imperial stout extends into a late palate of latte and creme de cacao.
Decadence simply oozes from the brazen full bodied beer. Chewy, rich and heavily dessert-like, the beer's finish is pleasantly cloying with a boozy spice of coffee liquor playing a spicy note to offset the longer linger of chocolate and cream to a reasonable degree. This is basically what bourbon balls want to be if you want to drink them.
