Rolling into the Lent season with the help of a calorie rich beer that approaches nearly imperial status because we don't really do a beer fast for the religious observances, we need a strong ale to help us with the allergies of spring.

Country Boy's Dopplebock pours with a mostly brown but also a mahogany shade of reds for a unique malt display. As a short and swirling froth adorns the rim, the malty rich scent of sorghum, nuttiness, toastiness and an overall savory, seared sweet scent comes with a light floral character of honey. Those sweet tendencies only intensify on the tongue as its early malt impressions of molasses, sorghum, brown sugar and honey satisfy the sweet tooth with ease.

As the malts latch onto the tastebuds, they are reluctant to release, saturating the middle palate fully with a rich and savory grain character that's deeply toasty without being roasty. Nutty with candied pecans and savory with the character of toasted shortbread and the malty medley is complete. A light hop bitterness adds a broad and spicy woodsiness that opens up to a fruity finish of toasted grape, currant and cherry.

Full bodied and gently cloying, the malt dominant lager warms the throat with a light brandy heat and a woven malt linger that's remiss of port and honey liquors.
